STUBBORNLY PERSIST, AND YOU WILL FIND THE LIMIT OF YOUR STUBBORNNESS GO WELL BEYOND THE STUBBORNESSS OF YOUR LIMITS ~ ROBERT BRAULT.
ARE YOU BEHIND BARS? WITH HANDCUFFED HANDS AND MAYBE CHAINED LEGS.
ARE YOU BEING FED PEANUTS OR NOT EVEN BEING GIVEN FOOD AT ALL?
DO YOU HAVE TO SLEEP ON COLD HARD FLOOR BECAUSE ALL THE OTHER PRISONERS HAVE TAKEN All THE BEDS? …
IF YOU ARE NOT, THEN WHAT IS STOPPING YOU?
I was talking to a friend many nights ago and we were talking about something I can’t exactly remember but, I remember that he mentioned a Watchman Nee whose tongue was cut off while he was in prison. I got interested in his story and did some research.
Watchman Nee was born on November 4, 1903 in Shantou, China. He became a Christian after initially laughing at Christians. He had the zeal for God and years after becoming a Christian, he established a lot of LOCAL Churches throughout China and went further to other countries like Malaysia, Philippines.
What really interests me about him…
Christianity became a problem/ sin after the rise of the Chinese Communist party in 1949. Watchman Nee was a man who boldly proclaimed the salvation of Christ and his belief in Christ that nothing could make him compromise.
Do you have that thing you strongly belief in (it can be God, a dream, a principle…) and you can never compromise on?
It was a given; he was going to be imprisoned. I mean really, there was no way this man that refused to stop talking about God will not be the first to be thrown in Prison and put in a room with six hefty men hungry for human flesh(picturing it is making me shudder). So he was arrested on April 10, 1952 and was hurled to prison in 1956. He was supposed to spend 15 years in prison but because this man would not stop waking up so early and shouting on top of his voice about his belief and Jesus even when he was beaten, and probably not given food for days, he ended up spending over twenty years in prison till he died actually.
The fascinating thing is, when the prison guards got tired of him talking boldly about God and actually converting some of the prisoners (I don’t know for a fact if he did but, I’m assuming he did), they decided to cut off his tongue.
“Hahaha , let’s see how he will talk about God now”, I imagine them saying to themselves. But, there is this thing about conviction, perseverance and fortitude.
“You can cut my tongue, but you can’t kill my belief” …. So Mr Watchman Nee took to writing letters. He was not allowed to mention God’s name in his letters but, he showed that you don’t have to mention God’s name before true believers will know you are talking about the King of Kings. He reminds me of Paul who wrote letters to the Churches telling them about his faith and encouraging them in the Lord. In Watchman Nee’s last letter before he died, he just had to mention Christ’s name and he proclaimed him as “the son of God who died for the redemption of sinners.”
There is something I have noticed about great men who are great because they didn’t allow their circumstance to hold them back; they forgive those people that tried to kill their dreams and even the ones that tortured them physically and mentally. This man still showed Love to his persecutors just like Stephen the martyr did when he was stoned to death. Stephen even prayed for them: “Father forgive them. For they know not what they do” (Acts 7: 60). If it were Mayowa, I would have prayed for God to strike them there and then. If I was going like Samson did, they would have to go with me.
What has that brother/sister done to us that is so unforgivable?
Why do we harbor so much hatred towards someone that has done something so tiny it can be settled immediately?
While Paul and Silas were in prison, they still prayed and praised. Paul said in Philippians 4:4, “rejoice in the lord always, and again I say, rejoice.” He was in prison and he still annoyed the prison guards with his singing and rejoicing.
Please why are you acting like the weight of the whole world is on your shoulder? Even if things are not going on so well for you right now, shouldn’t you still be grateful that you are not in prison?
You know you can actually be in a posh prison and that posh prison is the one you create for yourself. Watchman Nee could have decided Prison meant silence. Infact, when his tongue was cut off, that should have been the end for him, but he was a man that understood the power of the mind and understood what it meant to have fortitude. He is the author of ‘A seer of the divine revelation’ amongst other books and many are still reading his books and are being blessed by it even till today. He let his life transcend beyond prison and he did that by having a certain mindset.
Sweetheart, everything has an expiry date. So that thing that is really weighing you down will end some day. Instead of focusing on it and as a result becoming sad and hopeless, why not focus on something else?
Why not look that problem eye ball to eye ball when it’s threatening to tamper with your joy and let it know, you will fight to the finish and you will be the one to see its end? Instead of blaming circumstances or your parents, friends, spouse for their actions and inactions, why not decide to rise above that and write the story you want? For you to move forward in life, you have to make sure your mindset is already ahead of you.
You have to understand it’s your life to lead. It’s your story to write even though it will definitely not be easy, but why not look at lives such as Watchman Nee, Nelson Mandela who even while in prison refused to be mentally imprisoned.0
