Today is yesterday’s effects and tomorrow’s cause ~ Phillip Gribble
Teenagers and Adolescents alike are a wonderful set of people and from what I have noticed in our generation, we are also the type of people that like to have fun and enjoy what today has to offer. Maybe I am wrong, maybe I am not. Let’s just assume I am right because I will be writing from the ‘I am right’ perspective.
I am sure most of you have heard of ‘YOLO’ which means ‘you only live once’… Moving on, I don’t think People say ‘YOLO’ now as much as they did before. It was crazy when the acronym first came out. Anyway, though people don’t exactly say it as much now, from my observation, some people have changed their mindset/philosophy to living only for today and although it’s not a bad thing in and of itself, unfortunately, some people live for today in the sense of partying excessively and doing potentially harmful things. Now, don’t get me wrong. I do not oppose the concept of ‘YOLO’. Actually, I think it’s a good concept if it helps you remember this life is all you got (well, we have an afterlife but by then, you will only live based on how you are living now), so you have to work hard. You have to dream and work towards actualizing those dreams. You have to live a life that impacts others positively and that will make God proud and happy. The list goes on…. For me, ‘YOLO’ reminds me of the fact that ‘THERE WILL ALWAYS BE A TOMORROW’.
Think about the future; tomorrow. Make plans for tomorrow because Life is so unpredictable. If something happens tomorrow, will you be able to bounce back on your feet? You will determine the answer to that question by how you live today. Make no mistake my darlings, your tomorrow is a direct effect of your today.
We have to think beyond now because, the future will always come. I know the bible said in Matthew 6:34~ “THEREFORE DON’T WORRY ABOUT TOMORROW, BECAUSE TOMORROW WILL WORRY ABOUT ITSELF. EACH DAY HAS ENOUGH TROUBLES OF ITS OWN” but if you read it from verse 25, you will realize Jesus said that because, he doesn’t want us to be anxious about the future. He wants us to trust him believing he that provides for the birds of the air and clothes the wildflowers has you. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t work because laziness and slothfulness are advised against in the book of proverbs. I know the bible talks of a tomorrow because in Jeremiah 29:11, the bible says “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope”. The key word is FUTURE and I like to believe future represents tomorrow.
Should you enjoy today? Of course yes. Appreciate life and people today! Breathe in fresh air and admire the beauty of nature today! Love today! Forgive today! Pray today! Have fun today!
But should you say because you want to live in the present, you suffer tomorrow? NO … work hard for tomorrow! Have the right attitude that will take you to places tomorrow! Think for tomorrow and put those brilliant ideas you have today into motion for tomorrow. Pray for tomorrow and make plans based on God giving you a go ahead. Do something while waiting for something to happen for you. Don’t ever make the mistake of thinking you are too young to invest or add to your skills base. Daily work on your relationship with God today as that will guarantee a tomorrow with him. Sow seeds today that will germinate to make your life easier tomorrow. Darling, instead of complaining and mopping around, think of something and start doing it. Fix the problems of today and don’t add it to the problems tomorrow might bring.
For you that is not sure there is a tomorrow, ask yourself: “what if there is a tomorrow?”0
