“He looked at me and opened his arms wide, embraced me for so long in his loving arms. His eyes were glistened with tears, but they were tears of joy. He ordered them to make a feast for me. ‘Go! Go! Spread the word. My son is back. He is back and there will be a large feast to celebrate that. The lost sheep has finally returned home’, he said, and then he turned to me and said ‘I have waited patiently for this day’ and I cried. How could he have been waiting when I have been so unfaithful, when I rebelled and decided to go my own way? How can he accept me so warmly like I never did any wrong?”
That’s the same way God is waiting, waiting for you to just come back to him. The story I told although in my own way is the story of the prodigal son in Luke 15:11-32. We all know the story and if you don’t know it, I will summarize it here though you should check the full story in the Bible. A man had two sons and one out of the sons asked his father for his own share of the inheritance. The father obliged him and gave him his share. I am guessing the father did that so his son could make his own mistake, learn from his mistake and perhaps never commit such mistake again. So the son went off to a far away land and he squandered all the money there. My Pastor (Pastor Aduloju) once said one of the tactics the devil uses is the tactic of Isolation. If he wants you to withdraw from God, he will speak to you and advice you to go to a far away land where no one can talk reasoning into you. So please if you are cutting everyone that can really speak sense into you, watch it. After this man squandered all the money, he had to be sharing food with pigs and on deciding that he was better than that, the servants in his father’s house were treated better, he decided to go back home and on getting home, he asked his father for forgiveness and begged to be one of the servants, but the father threw a feast instead. Sweetheart, it’s the same way God is ready to throw a feast if you will just come back to him. Do you know there is more joy in heaven over one sinner that repents (Luke 15:7)?
I read a book many years ago, a big book which I finished in about three days because I was so captivated by it. The book was written by Francine Rivers and I think the name is ‘Redeeming love’. This book was so amazing and powerful that it had me shedding a few tears. It was about a prostitute whom God and Hosea (A cue was taken from Hosea, the chapter in the Bible) loved so unconditionally even when she resisted the love. God’s love was able to redeem her and take away all the dirt, guilt and shame. It reminds me of the story of the woman that was taken in adultery by the hypocritical Scribe and Pharisees. They brought her to Jesus and they intended to stone her according to the Law of Moses regarding adultery. But instead of condemning her, Jesus said to her after asking about her condemners: ‘Neither do I condemn thee, go and sin no more” (John 8: 1-11). Do you know it’s the same way God is just waiting for you to confess your sins, repent and not condemn yourself? Ask for forgiveness and darling, it will be given.
I know there are times we do things that are wrong and we hide our face from God because we are feeling so guilty and we feel he won’t accept us again. So like Adam and Eve after they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, you run away, you hide your face. I know, there are times I struggle with forgiving myself after I have done something’s and I think, if I can’t forgive myself, will God forgive me? But what he wants is for us to admit we are wrong and not pass on the blame like Adam tried to do. So you have to forgive yourself and turn back even if you think it’s too late and he won’t accept you. You just try him by raising your voice up to heaven and asking for mercy. We humans’ atimes find it hard to forgive when we have been badly hurt. Forgetting is another herculean task on its own, but God is so amazing that he will both forgive and forget. See what was said in Ezekiah 18: 21-23 “And if the wicked will turn from all his sins that he hath committed, and keep all my statutes, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall surely live, he shall not die. All his transgressions that he hath committed, they shall not be mentioned unto him: in his righteousness that he hath done he shall live….” Can you see? He also said “….though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow… (Isaiah 1:18)
Let us all ask for the help of the Holy Spirit to teach us, guide us and help us live a life worthy of God. And please, whenever we fall, let’s remember he is always waiting for us to ask for mercy though we should not take his grace and mercy for granted like Brother Paul said in Romans 6: 1-2. For you darling that feels too dirty, too lost and feels undeserving of his redeeming love, he is right here waiting for you so there can be joy in heaven because of you.0
