My sister and I were chatting sometime ago and she mentioned she went to a restaurant where they have karaoke night and she sang. I didn’t believe her until she showed me a recorded video because I know how shy she can be. We decided to go to the restaurant in surulere on Thursday which is the karaoke night. The plan was for my sister and me to sing and well, Lk (brother-in-law) was to chip in.
It was Thursday night and we were at the restaurant having a nice time, laughing and commending some people’s voices while Pelumi and I were giving the eye signal for the voices that were going off course. Lk decided it was our turn to sing and we decided to be chickens.
We looked through the list looking for songs to sing. Honestly, there were many we could have sung but I kept telling Lk I didn’t know the songs. He called both of us the chickens that we are and decided he was going to take the lead. Ah, Lk to lead… he would be laughed at from the very beginning. We begged him not to and Pelumi threatened to go inside the car if he should start singing. She knew the strength of her husband’s voice and she wasn’t ready to have many people staring at us and just laughing in our faces.
Lk was determined…
So I offered to sing with him but knowing me, I knew I would be laughing instead of singing. Lk was particularly shocked that I wasn’t courageous enough to sing considering how I often disturbed them with my singing. Lk wasn’t going to allow people’s stares or comments to stop him from doing something challenging and fun for him. Challenging because Lk’s voice is just…
To cut the long story short, we left the place without singing and Lk did not let us hear the end of it till we got home. It was so funny because when we got inside the car, Pelumi and I started singing… lmao. Lk wanted to kill us and actually banned us from singing. Lmao! He was pained (Lk, I promise to sing with you next time).
He talked about courage and how it doesn’t matter if people are laughing at you; you should do that thing anyway, be that person anyway, and take that step anyway. Looking at it, Lk was courageous. I mean he was ready to sing though his voice is terrible. Honestly guys, courage is needed to do anything and be anything in life. Courage is being bold enough to do something even if the crowd is not doing it and you are not sure of its outcome.
It takes courage to do something rather than nothing. It takes courage to get back up after falling so many times. It takes courage to fight for your life and lead your life successfully. Darlings, be courageous enough to ask. The most you will get is a ‘No’ and I know some of us don’t like getting no (I hate no) but we have to try anyway even if we are not certain we will get a ‘YES’. Start that thing. Do that thing. Remember guys, REGRET DOESN’T ACCOMPANY TRYING. IT ACCOMPANIES NOT TRYING BECAUSE YOU WILL NEVER HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO KNOW HOW IT MIGHT HAVE TURNED OUT and that is killing, atleast it is for me.
I quite like the story of Esther In the bible. Her boldness is really inspiring… ‘If I perish, I perish’… now that is courage. This week and for days to come, please let’s try to add a little more courage to everything we do because we are already courageous people. We just need a little more, without that, we can never really move from A to F.
Use the comment box to tell us about that thing you are finding hard to try or the regrets you have about not trying a particular thing.
Please share and let’s spread the message. By the way, has anyone reading ever had an embarrassing karaoke moment. Please, do tell.0
